Beauty that Lasts

Every girl longs to be beautiful. Why else do we buy so much makeup and clothing? We spend hours on our appearances, trying to make ourselves drop-dead gorgeous. The world we live in is obsessed with beauty, and that obsession easily sneaks into our lives. However, the beauty the world is obsessed with is one that fades with time. Once you start to get wrinkles and gray hair, you’re no longer beautiful in the world’s eyes. Yet we all still long to be beautiful.

Have you ever met a lady who was gorgeous, but once you got to know her she became less beautiful? Her attitude and actions did away with all of her physical beauty.

But have you ever met a lady who was plain on the outside, but was so beautiful in her attitude and actions that you completely forgot how “plain” she was? Her beauty came from somewhere inside and radiated through her to the outside.

I have met both kinds of women, and it’s truly inspiring to meet a woman who is radiant because she is beautiful on the inside.

My grandma is one of the most beautiful ladies I know. While she is a very fit and stylish grandma, what truly makes her beautiful is her love for the Lord. She radiates joy, and her love for God is evident in her words and actions.

When I meet ladies who are beautiful inwardly, it makes me wonder why we put so much energy into our appearances? It’s not our physical beauty that makes us shine – it’s the beauty inside us that shines.

Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4

It’s not a bad thing to look nice, in fact, the Proverbs 31 woman is described as one who dresses well (Proverbs 31:22). But it’s not our outward appearance that makes us beautiful. It’s the way we adorn our spirit that matters. What does God find beautiful? A gentle and quiet spirit.

How to we gain that gentle and quiet spirit that makes us beautiful? It is found in God’s presence.

One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple. Psalm 27:4

The more we meditate on God and spend time in His presence, the more we reflect His beauty and His nature. Choose to make time with God a priority in your life, and learn how to set your mind on the things above throughout your day. As you practice these things God will work inside of you and transform you into someone who’s beautiful from the inside out.

Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30

Outward beauty fades with time, and beauty is a fickle thing – what one generation deems beautiful, another will call hideous. But true beauty that lasts a lifetime and from generation to generation is the beauty of a woman who fears the Lord. May we all learn to fear the Lord and reflect His beauty!

With love,
